I will compare Astro A50 with PS4 Platinum headset because Astro A50 was my main gaming headset before I bought PS4 Platinum headset - Sound quality: Astro A50 has better sound quality. It's not that the PS4 Platinum is bad, there's not a huge difference in quality, but if you're a music lover you'll notice the difference. The PS4 Platinum has a more exaggerated sound while the A50 sounds more natural. The A50 has the best range in terms of sound quality (works well on low, mid and high frequencies) as the Sony Platinum is good on mid and high frequencies. with 3D sound*). So if you're a hardcore gamer and want a headset that's more functional (in terms of gameplay) than one that sounds better, the PS4 Platinum is your best bet. Awareness is amazing. Spatial awareness still works in games that don't support 3D audio, but it's not as pronounced as you can't hear what's above or below you. Both the Astro A50 and the PS4 Platinum allow you to hear what's going on around you (not from above/below for Sony Plat games that aren't compatible with 3D audio), but the Sony Platinum works better. I hope this headset catches on as I love watching more games with 3D sound. -- Build: PS4 Platinum has a weaker build, as I said, most of the cost has gone into the technology. The PS4 Platinum can be folded when you want to travel with it or pack it into a compact storage space. Overall, the Astro A50s is more solidly built, but not as portable. Both devices are very comfortable to wear, even over long periods of time. The Astro A50's buttons are easier to press and more user-friendly. especially with the analog volume control. The PS4 Platinum has most of the functionality on the back of the headset and most of the buttons have the same tactile feedback, making them difficult to understand at times. Visual Aesthetics: With the exception of the metal strip at the top, the PS4 Platinum looks very nice. There's a lot going on with the blandA50, particularly with the coiled cables on the side of the headset. Compatibility: Out of the box, if you want surround sound on a PS4 Platinum headset, it ONLY works on PS4/PS4 Pro. If you want to use it on other devices, only stereo audio will be output. Astro A50 surround sound can be output to other devices such as PC and Xbox One (if you have an adapter). Both have no Bluetooth as they have their own receiver. The Astro A50 uses a mixer amplifier while the Sony Platinum uses a USB dongle. The Astro A50 has more wiring as you need to connect your PS4 using a wired USB and an optical cable. The PS4 Platinum only used one wireless USB dongle, so you can just plug in and play without messing around with cables. If you want to use a headset to connect a device with a 3mm jack, the PS4Platinum puts a dedicated 3mm headphone jack on the headset, but note that it only outputs stereo. The Astro A50 on the other hand doesn't have a wired 3mm jack for the headset itself as you need to connect it through a mixer amp which needs to be plugged in via a USB power adapter and a 3mm audio cable comes out of the mixer amp. In that sense, the Sony Platinum is more portable, because if you want to take the Astro A50 out into the public eye you'll need to connect the mixer amp via the power supply and deal with two separate cables.
