Motherboard with all the bells and whistles

Replaced my Z390 Godlike with this Z490 version. In general there is little difference. It's practically the same size and layout as the Z390 version. The 6-pin PCIe power connector is now on the bottom of the board rather than in the middle, making routing the power cable much easier. I really like that the LEDs on the board are now white instead of red so they don't clash with whatever colors you might choose for your system if you're using RGB. The postcode display also comes in white with slightly larger numbers than before, which is nice too. Dynamic Dashboard II is nice in that it now has a color display, but the display itself is pretty dim. That can be good or bad depending on how you look at things, but MSI should be able to control the brightness. The Dragon RGB IO cover is a huge improvement over the previous version's infinity mirror, which I always turned off anyway. Three PCIe slots is enough, but at this price point, the PLX chip had to be implemented for enthusiasts still using SLI and those with lots of disk space. It has lots of fan headers and enough RGB headers. If you care about overclocking this is a great board from VRM to physical power, reset and cold boot repeat buttons. Software-wise, MSI should really invest more time in Mystic Light, that's fine, but some of the profiles are really bad when they could be better. MSI's BIOS is one of the best to use in my opinion. Overall I am very happy with this board. Aesthetically, it's a much-needed upgrade and feels more mature than some of MSI's recent designs. I took off a star because I think MSI has a real shot at polishing this gem of a motherboard. This review is for the MSI Review Rebate Program.
