There are a few things that made me pull off the stars. Firstly, 12 AAA batteries are required between these two shakers! It seems quite large, which adds to the cost. It also turns on automatically when flipped - I would have preferred to have pushed the button like some others I've seen. I can only imagine my kids going crazy and making a mess with it. Eventually, when turning the pepper mill over, quite large and uneven pieces of pipe fall out - I'm not sure if it wasn't powerful enough to grind or something. There are some positive aspects. There is a light so you can easily see your food. In addition, the top is adjustable for different degrees of steepness. In general I like the idea but the design could be better.
