Review on Philips Hue Bluetooth Gradient Ambiance Smart Lightstrip 2m/6ft Base Kit with Plug - Multicolor Strip (Apple Homekit + Google Home Compatible), White, 570556 by Kimberly Jackson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great with Hue Hub, 3 gradients

Ridiculous price tag aside, this is a near-perfect Hue product. I won't go into price in this review, but it's definitely the first thing that struck me compared to other LED strips that don't work with the Hue Hub. Setting up my existing Hue network took less than a minute after I plugged it in and once you add it to the room every automation includes this strip and it just works with whatever color you set it to and has also quite nice, pure white. The strip is about 6 feet long and can be cut shorter, but once you have cut it the excess strip is unusable. Good if you just want to light up a 5ft area and don't need to worry about what to do with the extra strip. You'll need to power the control module with AC power, but it's fairly compact and fits under a cabinet fairly easily. This strip comes with 3 color gradients and the Hue app makes it easy to set up like any other Hue bulb. They can go from a subtle light gradient to a dark blue gradient or go full color. I haven't experimented with motion, but Hue Labs offers options for motion and other creative uses for this strip. The quality is top notch as expected and as someone who has invested heavily in Hue lights throughout my house it was great to be able to easily integrate this with the rest of my home automation. I don't use Google Home, but it's automatically added to Apple Home, and even if you don't use the Hue app, you can easily access and control this band from your Apple phone or tablet. I really don't see any justification for giving this product one star because of the high price. This is clearly a premium product. There weren't any quality issues, the light bar looks great, it's easy to assemble and use, and I haven't had any issues with it at all. Will I buy more of these? Probably not unless the price nears the $100 mark. It's good to know that a 6-foot extension is available for longer uses, although $70 is still a bit pricey for what's basically just a standard RGB strip. Again, this is a premium product and you pay more for comfort and reliability. I didn't experiment to see if regular strips would work as an extension.

Pros
  • Useful for more than its intended purpose
Cons
  • A few minor things
