Earlier this year I got a whetstone sharpening set that I didn't have to pay for and I was excited to use, but it didn't have an angle guide, leather strap and air conditioning . I have never used a sharpening kit - I have several professional knives and have always preferred to have a professional sharpen them. I found the set I had was good for cheap knives, scissors and some cheap gardening tools, but I didn't want to use it for my good knives. I recommend reading and watching videos on how to use them if you are a beginner like me. There is a lot of information out there and it is really helpful. One of the most important things to know is that you should soak the stones before use and keep them moist while sharpening. Another thing is that there are different methods and some of them may be a matter of personal preference, so you should practice on some unnecessary equipment (cheap scissors, cheap knives, old lawn blades, whatever) before moving on to your real one skip equipment. The only thing that really let me down about this set is that it doesn't come with rough rocks for things that are really broken/damaged (I have pruning shears that were accidentally used as wire cutters and need a rough sharpening). Luckily the other set I have also has rough stones and they are the same size so I don't have to buy more stones. If you need rough stones these can be purchased separately Size is universal I also have a medium fine grit sharpening stone to use with my other set (4000 grit) Oh it's nice to have many grits to choose from. I love everything about it: - two pieces of thin white stone (1000f or standard cut and 6000 grit in multiple passes with an extra sharp finish). The stones are glued together. It's good that they are double-sided - so they are much thicker and more convenient to use. The stones are fitted with silicone inserts to keep them in place when in use. These grips are so great - they really add value to this set. The set also includes a beautiful wooden frame. I take a damp paper towel and place it under the frame to keep it from shifting from the moisture and movement of the sharpening. The kit includes a leather strap and polishing paste for a final pass after sharpening to buff and remove contaminants. small ridges. I am very happy about this addition! - An angle guide can be helpful when you're just starting to learn what angle to sharpen a blade at. What I don't really like: - I wish there was a video about it. Sharpener. There's some information in the product listing, but you'll need more if you're not already a pro at it. I suggest taking your time and watching lots of videos. Overall, this set is very durable and will last for years. While it has a lot of detail, I can't understand why it didn't have coarse whetstones as well. Luckily, they're easy to acquire, but you still need to buy an addition to the full set.
