What I used it for: I needed to clone my old hard drive (which is still in my laptop) to a new SSD (which I connected to the laptop via this adapter have ). What I did: I bought a Samsung Electronics 840 EVO Series 2.5" SATA III 120GB drive and this USB 2.0 to SATA adapter from Kingwin and used the Samsung cloning software that came with the SSD drive to clone the drive. What happened. :( The SSD drive started accepting data for about a minute, then the program hung on me. I had to turn off the laptop to regain control of the laptop. Thinking I did something wrong, I read the manual and followed the manual the letter and started the process with high hopes. The second time it stopped again after 1 minute in the cloning process.Frustrated I removed my antivirus, internet and other background programs. The third time I tried it, it failed again (1 minute each time) Each time It didn't work, I had to restart the laptop, turn off the laptop in normal mode, then restart the laptop with Kingwin USB 2.0 to SATA adapter disconnected, then plug the adapter back in. Start over. Very time consuming. The part took 3-4 hours to pull my hair out. Then I tried everything again on my tower computer and came across the same problems. On the second day I downloaded a new version for cloning. downloaded from the internet and tried to use it (again several hours researching different software, reading reviews and learning how to use the software. Again it hung in error process for about 1 minute. And I got it tried several times and each time I got the same errors. On the third day I downloaded a disk erasing software and tried to write zeros to the SSD hoping to start over and try again.I failed because the error I got was not writing zeros to disk I have a new SATA adapter called Sabrent USB 2.0 TO SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5/-INCH Hard Drive Converter with Power Supply and Activity LEDs (EC-AHDD). and a new ssd hard drive in 2 days.(I'm Revane's heart) and I didn't even have time to ship the old ssd which I sent back so I decided to do some tests with it.I have the old ssd in the no uen adapter and used the cloning software I tried the first night and BOOM! ssd works fine with the new Sabrent adapter on the first try and I didn't have to do anything special. That's exactly what I wanted. Bottom Line: This inexpensive $12.99 adapter cost me almost 12 hours of troubleshooting and nonsense because it doesn't work for what I need. Get the Sabrent USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5/-INCH Hard Drive Converter with Power Delivery and Activity LEDs (EC-AHDD) and save yourself tons of headaches and time.
