GE brand filter has certification and impressive water filtration claims

Why buy a GE brand filter when there are many third party filters selling for 1/3-1/2 the price ? But do third-party filters work? the same as GE? It's up to you, but here are my thoughts: Previous GE MWFs came with California registration/certification; California has strict standards. Interestingly, this version (2016) no longer has the Calif document. The GE brand filter is marked "Made in the USA with Worldwide Components". (Others are made in China.) It is clear that GE is a distributor and not a manufacturer of the filter. It claims to filter chlorine taste, odor, cysts, lead, mercury, asbestos, atrazine, benzene and lindane and 5 drugs (drugs and into water when expired or unused drugs are flushed down) - Packaging says filter tested has been certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 and Standard 53 for the specified requirements. Some posters wrote about these standards. I would advise buyers to compare these sworn claims to third party claims - box needs to be replaced at 300 gallons or 6 months. Well, a gallon a day suggests once a year. Twice a year it will break the bank. - With 10 years of reviews and a few design changes in that time, I wouldn't read solid reviews until after 2015 or so; Reviews from several years may be out of date.
