I was looking for lightweight shelving for a display case that needs height. They are perfect for that. The material is quite interesting, something like plastic, like wood? But very smooth to the touch and of course easy to clean. At first I was very nervous when assembling it because the "plugs" seemed too big for the grooves. I didn't want to spoil them. Finally I worked up the courage to push a little harder and they snapped into place. The blocks are lightweight and easy to manipulate (useful when a show is running). They won't break easily (if at all), but in this particular situation, that suited me.
