Every morning we hike through a very large area of desert early in the morning. 2 coyotes crossed our path within 20-30 feet without even bothering with us. My dog broke the clasp on Halti's collar and ran after them. I'm old and I can't go on. Luckily he emerged after about 30 minutes with a few broken branches in his fur, but unharmed. There's no blood on his snout, so I'm guessing he didn't infect it. It was a wake up call. I bought this collar and use it with the Kong XXL harness. You can't use the harness alone if you don't want to be the kite behind it. I put the collar on, thread the end ring through the D-ring on the harness so that when he tries to pull the collar out, it tightens in the opposite direction that he's pulling. A few weeks later I met a coyote and the setup worked great. The dog has not an ounce of fat and is as strong as a horse. I feel my dog is safe, I am very happy with this collar
