Small improvements and adjustments can improve reception

At first I thought maybe I had a broken FM set-top box. I hooked this up to a DB8e antenna to pick up some VHF stations in the area and I mounted it on either side of the DB8e as instructed on the back. I was surprised to see that my VHF Channel 13 reception had actually degraded in my area. The? I double checked everything, made sure the cables were tight etc and everything looked fine. Still no reception. I took it off the DB8e reflector (easier said than done, btw) and experimented with holding it in different places and found that the optimal position for me was about a foot *in front* of the DB8e. reflectors. Don't cut behind it. So I built an aluminum rod (part of the rod system in the closet I had laying around) to protrude horizontally from the DB8e, tied this VHF accessory to the rod (it's kinda pointing down but it's a dipole). ). and whatever). With the zip ties holding it I could slide it towards or away from the DB8e to see where I had the best reception and I got it best. Now I'm receiving this VHF 13 as well as 9, 11 and 12 which I didn't get before. So yes, it picks up VHF, but the "attach to the back of the UHF Butterfly Reflector" preset might not be the best solution for you. It's also worth noting that when I rotated the DB8e's dual reflectors a bit to improve UHF, it affected VHF reception. I really liked them pointing in the same direction, so I'm just assuming the UHF reflectors help the VHF. In my case, I'm about 28 miles from these towers. So if you're closer, it might not matter. but be prepared to tinker around and experiment with how you set it up. Have a TV or something with a signal meter so you can tune it in real time. I used an IP camera and an app on my phone so I could look at my TV signal meter on the roof. :)

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance
