35 miles from Chicago

Direct 8 Element Bowtie Antennas Just Installed. Every station I recorded was stable with no gaps except CBS. Apparently, the CBS Chicago affiliate is the only FM station in the area. This is a problem with many HDTV antennas as they are primarily designed to receive UHF signals. I ordered this VHF upgrade kit hoping to improve the signal. When I opened the box I was very skeptical as it was just a metal rod. I installed it and my quality indicator immediately went up to 100%.

Solved the problem for me!

I added this kit to upgrade our Quad Butterfly UHF antenna because we have several large network stations in our area that are still broadcasting on the high VHF band that our existing antenna does not could receive. This upgrade kit solved the problem and made those stations crystal clear. I live between Columbia, South Carolina and Augusta, Georgia and now I can watch different football games. For example, I can see panthers in Columbia and I can see falcons in Augusta.

MUCH better than I expected

I had my doubts as to whether it was worth it as it is a simple dipole with no reflector/directors. But I'm impressed. I originally bought it to improve the signal from the local PBS affiliate, Channel 11; Your transmitter is 31 miles away. The signal has transitioned from random blocking and audio dropouts to permanent. And a huge surprise last weekend: With the FCC repackaging, the Boston broadcaster PBS switched from UHF to VHF - channel 5 (low VHF). It's a pretty small antenna for low VHF…

Records VHS and amplified UHF!

I was unable to receive FOX 2 (VHF channel 7) from Detroit (about 25 miles) with the UHF antenna. I decided to try this $20 solution. Very easy to install, I attached it to the same pole that my UHF antenna was attached to on my roof. Pay attention to connections, UHF UHF antenna, VHF/UHF output goes to your TV. Note: I used a signal booster. My first rescan picked up FOX 2, but some previous strong UHF stations stopped working. I removed the signal booster and all channels are captured with a…

Good VHF antenna if you don't follow the instructions.

I recently cut my cable and live in a rural area about 35-40 miles from two city centers (and their HDTV stations). I first installed a good/cheap antenna/amplifier with a good rating (1byOne 80 mile), it turned out to be a narrow UHF only (or mostly UHF) directional antenna. It would have picked up a VHF channel if pointed at a lone station about 25 miles away, but was otherwise very ineffective on VHF. So I bought this "upgrade kit" to add VHF. On the first try I connected this VHF antenna…

No VHF Reception: Marine Electronics

I live in an area where all but one TV station operates on the UHF band. Little did I know when I bought my current UHF antenna that all the transmitters were non-UHF. Luckily I don't watch this channel very often, so the lack of signal doesn't bother me. After seeing this product and reading the description and reviews about it, I decided to give it a try. It wasn't very expensive so I said what the heck and ordered one. It hooked up easily and the included splitter allowed me to connect the…

Small improvements and adjustments can improve reception

At first I thought maybe I had a broken FM set-top box. I hooked this up to a DB8e antenna to pick up some VHF stations in the area and I mounted it on either side of the DB8e as instructed on the back. I was surprised to see that my VHF Channel 13 reception had actually degraded in my area. The? I double checked everything, made sure the cables were tight etc and everything looked fine. Still no reception. I took it off the DB8e reflector (easier said than done, btw) and experimented with…

The Chord Cutter's Best Friend

It didn't take long for me to become a fan of this dipole. I have been using my homemade antenna for many years. Google shows many websites that explain how to do this using very cheap materials. Channel 7's 175MHz signal was strong enough that I didn't have to buy something more professional just for that smelly channel. It was easy and fairly cheap to build. I used a PVC pipe as the base and some steel rods as the antenna elements. Make sure the rod length and spacing are as recommended, then
