I took a chance on taking this ottoman for storage as it got right up to the sofa thinking the smell would dissolve after a week or So Togo. Unfortunately it didn't go that fast. I left it open at the bottom and divided it into 3 parts. At first it even smelled upstairs, but over time I could only smell the smell downstairs. After 3 weeks when the smell was still strong I sprayed everything with Fabrese. For another 2-3 weeks it smelled like air freshener with a hint of chemical smell. After the air freshener smell went away, there was still a chemical smell in the ottoman, but it had greatly diminished and could only be detected when I sniffed inside. I put stuff in it and closed it yesterday. Today I opened the lid and the smell is still pretty faint. I suspect most people won't be bothered by that amount of smell. For those who are, I recommend a second round of spraying with air freshener.
