My home security system control board broke the other day. I was starting to dread the idea of disabling all zone inputs and then figured I should just do some basic troubleshooting. I tried taking a multimeter reading from a huge block transformer and voila. Nothing. Firstly, I really didn't think anything could fail in a transformer (it's just windings). Secondly, when I was looking for a replacement, I noticed that switched-mode power supplies don't seem to exist as replacements. Strange. especially since we are only talking about 2A here. At this point it was only a question of WHICH transformer. I chose a Hotop 24VAC, 40VA AC PTC transformer with fuse for no particular reason. The transformer has screw terminals but no clamping plate. It doesn't matter, you just need to wrap the wires around the screw a bit. The transformer is a bit bulky, so there is a mounting flange at the top of the unit. If you have a screw long enough, it will secure the block to the screw hole in the old bushings. It would have been nice if they had included the matching screw, but they didn't. You're out of luck if you're using Decora-style sockets. At work you get what you get. The chart is on the product page. They have two fuses, windings and an LED. It works. recommended
