Bought based on excellent reviews. Looks ok, works ok. Surprised at the lack of an on/off button. This is a permanent heater. I hope it has water detection protection and overheat protection. But then the device may not consume as much power when running 24/7, and reliability and possibly safety (bacterial growth control) is better at a consistently high temperature. On a side note, as an always-on device, I think it should be intended for use at night. However, I have to turn on the overhead light to use it at night. I would like a small LED lamp that lights up under the spout. Also, there might be a slightly larger form factor for me to fill the thermos I use. I hold the heater close to the edge of the counter to fill the thermos. I want the temp to be lower maybe around 145 as I need to cut 160 with some cold water to drink instant coffee. Note that the temperature values of 208, 195, 175, and 160 correspond to standard tea brewing temperatures. The 33 inch cord could have been about a foot longer since I don't use it in the kitchen where there are 110 countertop forks. *** Update January 2019: Still working fine. I use distilled water to avoid cleaning problems. I unplug the device from the back on weekends and when travelling. *** Update April 2019: Still a solid unit. Washed once with vinegar. There are no new observations. *** Update July 2020: This is a workhorse. We're now pushing a gallon a day through the heater. Fast heating, Recommend and buy again.
