We have two such gates - one blocks a wide corridor, and the other - an uneven kitchen opening. There are plastic parts in these gates, but the gate is well constructed and very strong - as they are mounted with hardware and not pressed, the plastic parts do not compress. goes up or down along the end bars and therefore does not need to be fitted directly to the floor - if you have skirting boards like we do then there is no need to shim or cut skirting boards for a level installation. We also liked this fact. that the gate doesn't have any extensions that create uneven openings - the gate will simply bulge if it's wider than your opening. The locking mechanism isn't the easiest, but it can be done with one hand and I'm not worried about my 10 month old figuring out how to unzip it (she tried). The release button is a lot more useful than we thought - it's nice to leave the gate open when our baby is already in bed or when she's high. Chair.
