You can call it "wireless" because the monitor and camera are not actually connected to each other. However, it's not completely wireless. The monitor requires a power source, so you need to connect it to the cigarette lighter. Some new cars don't have the old cigarette lighter plug, so keep that in mind when you buy. The camera must be connected to the vehicle's reversing lights. This activates the rear view camera. While it's a great camera and backup combo, don't buy it unless you have the ability to hook up a camera to your car as well, or know someone who can do it for you. I only gave this 4 stars because I think the wireless part can be misleading and it's important to be fully informed.
