Great compact and affordable security webcam!

This is the most compact USB webcam I can find. It's almost entirely black, and with a few tweaks you can make it entirely black. If they could make it 1/4 size it would be easier to hide. I would have preferred the miniaturization to the higher resolution for the next-gen model while retaining the same features. A major improvement over my old 640x480 webcam, aside from the higher resolution, is that even at the same resolution you can see the image is sharper. The next bonus is that in low light at night, intruders in dark places are better seen. However, compared to LifeCam Studio, the Studio has better clarity in low light conditions. I have yet to compare it to the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920. However, its extreme width makes it harder to hide, making it a potential security camera. However, it can be a great webcam for Youtube videos as it has a better field of view than LifeCam Studio. If I get a chance to buy the C920, I'll be comparing these three webcams at night in low light. Cons: It doesn't really support 720P at 30fps. 10 frames per second. 1280 x 720 at 10 fps 960 x 544 at 15 fps 800 x 600 at 15 fps 800 x 448 at 20 fps 640 x 480 at 30 fps If this thing could only do 1280 x 800 at 30 fps I'd be happy. 800 x 600 @ 60 fps would be nice if possible. Autofocus is a big problem. When cars or lights are aimed at or near the viewing window, it attempts to adjust focus, resulting in a 2-3 second delay while attempting to refocus to its original setting where it was once in focus. During autofocus - when recording audio, this creates a strange stuttering sound effect. I think this is caused by the autofocus motor inside. Sometimes the autofocus doesn't focus properly and stays on a blurry image which then has to be unplugged from the USB port and plugged back in for it to refocus correctly. LifeCam software requires you to be connected to the internet to download the latest version. I think they should release a simple program that doesn't require internet to install. It should only do the basic autofocus settings - enable/disable, manually adjust the focus distance and do color correction if necessary. Personally, Microsoft should just release a small file that will set and permanently disable autofocus at every OS startup or as a background application and that will solve most user problems with this webcam. Camera firmware so you can permanently set your own camera settings as presets. ue I would optimize the focal length. I'm pretty sure they can do all of that, but I'd rather have a firmware program that allows you to write your custom presets so you don't have to install LifeCam software on every computer. you use. I connect this camera to various laptops and without this software installed I am again faced with the annoying auto focus problem. Another issue I've noticed with autofocus is that in certain lighting conditions the image will flicker as it gets brighter and then darker, constantly switching between the two. I believe the autofocus is making a microfocus adjustment that is causing this. I didn't install the LifeCam software to disable autofocus on this computer to see if that fixed the flickering light issue. I would have preferred a simple program that could be installed and loaded automatically at boot to disable autofocus, but a permanently configurable firmware updater would actually be the best solution so you don't have to install LifeCam software on every computer.
