Most cats prefer vertical or horizontal scratches. While I have high bars around the house my kitten has been scratching the carpet or in boxes. I found this scraper/box and he LOVES it. He not only uses it constantly, but also sleeps and sits in it. He is quite a large cat and this is the perfect size for him. I love that it comes with a set of extra inserts. I put one in, when it's done a good job I turn it over and it's good for a few more months. One box/set lasted me for a year. One of the best cat items I've ever bought. While it may seem silly to buy a box (no matter how beautiful and high quality) with card inserts, my cat loves it and it's the only thing she scratches on. Worth every penny!
