What a joy once installed

I've spent an incredible amount of time setting up this scanner. It offers about six ways to control the scanner. I wanted to scan to a shared folder on the local network for two reasons: so that all our computers can use the scanner, and we can work with the scanner while sitting at it since it's in a separate room with different network equipment. So I wanted to sit down at the scanner, ask it to scan, make sure it did it successfully, and then go to the computer in the other room to access the resulting PDF file. We use Apple computers and the complexity of setting up the scanner was due to setting up a separate restricted account for the scanner, opening the firewall just wide enough to allow the scanner, ownership and file permissions, and more. It was particularly difficult to figure out the correct pathname that the scanner would use to find the shared folder. After a long search I found an example that immediately led to a solution. It took two days and about 12 hours to get it working. It would be faster if the documentation or the Brother help page showed an example folder path for my case. beauty after installation. I've been using it for a week and wonder how I ever managed without a document scanner before. It's fast, small and produces high-quality PDFs. If it shows the reliability my Brother printer and old fax phone showed I will be very happy.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Hard to tell
