I bought it for my husband. He states that he will definitely withstand something as heavy as a hammer, but he's only used it once since he got it. He claims it's great for screws and small objects, but it's actually too cumbersome to hold a hammer at it while you work. So... not sure if that's actually a useful gift. It is well made and appears to be durable
