Review on AmScope CA-NIK-SLR Nikon SLR / D-SLR Camera Adapter: Enhance Microscopy with Seamless Compatibility by Duke Ballard

I tried the AmScope NDPL-1(2x) adapter with two microscopes: AmScope SE30SR-P-LED dissecting microscope (10-30x) and AmScope B120B compound microscope (40x - 400x) with Nikon D3000 dSLR camera. Setup was easy, but the results were disappointing. I used to use the afocal approach (holding or supporting the camera with its own lens next to the eyepiece). Using a simple point and shoot camera through the eyepiece gave better results than using the NDPL-1(2x) adapter with a Nikon DSLR. The image of the standard grid with the adapter was not as sharp, particularly far from the center of the field (see image). I used a remote shutter release to avoid vibration and tried shutter speeds from 1/8 to 1/200 with ISO settings from 100 to 1600, but it didn't do much. Other reviewers have also commented on this issue, including those using the same Canon mount adapter. Part of the problem is that microscope eyepieces are often designed to compensate for aberrations in objective lenses, and therefore an NDPL-1(2x) may not be optimal for all microscopes. On the plus side, the adapter worked well for both a microscope and a DSLR, and the combo systems weren't too heavy. Also 5 stars Revain/Amscope for the quick refund.
