Yes it's a learning curve and yes my hands need to be hydrated but this set is a lot of fun! Patterns aren't that difficult to use as they don't need to be centered, just enough on the stump to cover the entire nail. I made sure to put some latex tape on my nails to allow the design to extend past the nail and cover everything. The latex band proved to be the most difficult part because it got on the nail polish and ripped off parts of the nail polish when removing it. I might have to wait longer for each layer to dry, but I didn't have the patience. Also the type of nail polish you use plays a role, my white wasn't very opaque so it doesn't contrast as much with black as vice versa. Anyway, it's fun to use and I'll play with it more! I don't know about the "plate" mentioned in other reviews, I didn't have it. I put a paper towel underneath when I used it and it was fine. I also made sure to apply a top coat to keep the pattern. I wiped the silicone stamp with tape between uses and it was perfectly clean. I cleaned the stencils with nail polish remover. They did well too.
