Great combination - great

I am writing a review for my entire purchase - it just makes sense that you know about the whole setup. I bought a Manfrotto 808RC4 along with a 190XPROB Pro tripod and a Manfrotto MB MSTRAP. -1 tripod strap. Everything in Rewan. And here's why: This head gives you total control in all directions. Large knurled knobs allow you to grip and adjust the tension of the pivot points to any degree. I use it for panning videos, I use it for off center compositing and metering. I love how stable this thing is when shooting my 60's and 120's with a 300mm lens. rock solid. And the rotation is lubricated smoothly and without failure. With a bubble level and two bubble levels, you'll always know where you are. And slopes to show the slope from -30 to +90 for replication. Ideal for panning videos or taking photos for a panorama. There are two "softening springs" to slow down the slopes when you reach both ends. You can turn them off if you want. I have friends who walked around with ball heads. And regret it. They're fast but not accurate, especially with a telephoto lens. With this head you can adjust the tension and easily loosen the movement of the camera without having to readjust. Now listen to me I can see other reviewers are not very happy that the shoe is a bit difficult. Let me say, after you've practiced with a boot attached to your camera and paid close attention three times, put it on your head and you'll know everything you need to know. You might need a few more practices to get it in the dark, but I'm telling you, you're going to love it. When you attach the camera to your head, it will trigger automatically and you don't have to worry about a thing. Double security prevented me from dropping the camera twice. Lessons are free. When it comes to a tripod, the word "rugged" springs to mind. And NOT too heavy. Together, the head and tripod weigh 7 pounds. With a strap, which I didn't buy at first, this setup is rock solid and you won't even notice you're wearing it. I don't even notice the combo. I walk for several hours at a time and have been known to stop in a panic at the exit and feel my back to make sure everything is still there! I think a big part of the "weight" issue is how you carry it. It feels strong in your hands. 7 pounds feels heavy on the hips. Over the shoulder, head down? He doesn't even exist! The tripod has a surprisingly stable center post that can be raised and tilted to a horizontal position - ideal for macro photography or simply to place the camera where you aren't. The legs are solid and the snaps have just the right amount of tension - not too difficult to open or close, not so loose that you worry about one of them slipping off. I also like that the center column isn't attached to the legs with the typical arms found on inferior tripods. Offers very easy folding and stacking. I like the leg angle presets - they're easy to use and don't bother you with slipping. Rubber grips on two legs protect your hands in cold weather. Nice gesture. So, in case you haven't figured it out yet, I love this setup. If I were to travel across the country for a few days I might need a little less weight, but for day trips, portraits or car trips this is the ticket.
