808RC4 is the heavy duty unit you need for heavier loads. I have several heavy lenses that allow sagging due to the weight of the load. This head eliminates this problem and also keeps the head running smoothly. I have multiple heads including a ball and two pistols. They are good for light to moderate loads (3-6 pounds), but they have a hard time carrying heavy objects. I think many buyers overlook this when purchasing tripods and heads. I've never had "liquid" before, but I adjusted this pan very well to my liking. I needed a head that I could use for photography, video, binoculars, and sometimes astronomy. As one user wrote it doesn't tilt back far enough for high sky astrophotography unless you rotate your device on the plate then you can take the shot from any angle but one of the head knobs will be opposite. (you get used to it). Very strong, strong and liquid. Also features a cool spring head that can be turned on or off.

Bought to prepare for some out of town photo trips. I stayed away from ball heads, including the very expensive Novoflex model, because they just can't hold the advertised weight without slipping no matter how hard I twist the knobs to keep the ball in place. Good head for beginners. It has bubble levels on all axis controls. The knobs tighten well and there is a spring to help adjust camera height when heavy cameras are mounted on the plate. But there is one tripod head I would recommend to anyone considering this option: the Manfrotto 410 geared tripod head. The Manfrotto 410 is about twice the price of the Manfrotto 808RC4. What really surprised me about this product when I received it today was its size and weight. Make no mistake, this is a well built, high performance head. It is equipped with a quick release plate, independently adjustable balance springs and adjustable as follows. Spirit levels in vertical and horizontal axis.
