I bought it 10 months ago and have been using it almost every day since. He hasn't lost a single silicone thread. I would use 10 regular sponges at a time, especially lately when I'm cooking every dish. It doesn't clean as well as a regular sponge (I almost never use the back side). If you're someone who leaves dishes in the sink for a while, this sponge may not be for you. Does not tolerate foods sticking to dishes well. But if you're someone who washes dishes relatively quickly, this will help. It never smells or looks dirty. I had moved eventually so I just boiled it for a few minutes to sanitize before packing. Even though it's less effective than a regular sponge, it's still worth storing 10 sponges in a landfill. And after 10 months my sponge showed no signs of wear.
