This is a reliable device. Not the smallest ball head, but a good, decent mid-size for most of my purposes (70D with less zoom or prime, comes with battery grip and sometimes mic). Everything is solid. Did I mention it? And it's very well thought out too, from the updated QR release lever (gone is the weird little brass pin to a much easier to use black "handle") to the rotary and ballpoint pen buttons. As one of the things I'll be using in the movie slider, it's nice that the long levers on these two knobs have a locking function for "pull repositioning". The ball friction setting can seem a little "off" if you're only playing with a ball head (no tripod, no camera). But when you put it under stress (when your camera is set up) the friction adjustment works really well, making fine-tuning a whole lot easier. Then the thing is securely locked. Note: This is my second block. The first unit I received had the QR release either stuck or overtightened (and stuck) at the factory. (I have 3 other Manfrotto heads so I know how they let go, how they work etc so please.) While I could probably tinker with it and maybe get it to work, it was new and should work firsthand. Crate. So I came to an agreement with the seller about the return/exchange. This process went well, so I will also leave you positive feedback.
