half. Even though they are designed for use in metal detectors, I have to say that they definitely serve me very well. I'll list the pros and cons very quickly: PROS: The EQ is pretty flat so monitoring vocal levels becomes pretty easy and clear. The sound/noise canceling is actually very good and when I hold both ear cups on my ears I am completely isolated from any outside noise. (I usually take air breaks with just a cup in my ear). I LOVE the volume control on the ear cup. When speaking into a mic, it's much easier to adjust the volume on my ear cup than it is to reorient my body and find the headphone volume on our console. I love the 8 foot cord. CONS: Not suitable for music. How general. There is no bass response and it gets harsh at high levels. Not very comfortable for long periods of time. These are tight-fitting headphones on the head. So if you take them off, you will feel like plugging your ears after wearing them for a while. They're super ugly too. I wouldn't have been caught dead walking down the street with it on. But I have to say I love their raw look, when I'm in the studio they seem well done.
