My work laptop has a USB-C port, but I found out the hard way that it's not Thunderbolt 3 compatible and doesn't work for video. I have this one instead and it works great. I assumed the refresh rate would be terrible since it's USB 3 instead of USB C, but Windows shows 60Hz and it seemed to keep up with my other external monitor connected to the laptop's HDMI port is. I've read that this also works on USB 2.x ports, but I would expect this to result in a lower refresh rate, but I haven't tested this. My only problem is that I have quite a bit of overscan (the screen is too big where half my taskbar is and the other 3 sides are all cut off). There is no way to fix this overscan. Windows sees the monitor, but usually you can set it up in Nvidia or Intel graphics utility, but these applications don't see this display. Also, you can't manually adjust the image size when using HDMI on my monitor. This is only possible if you are using VGA or DVI. I work around this by never maximizing anything and adjusting window sizes accordingly.
