I use them in garages and open end closets. They will fit correctly on fixtures with a groove or ridge for the lampshade and flat sided fixtures should be fine, but on curved fixtures the fit becomes questionable. You may be able to bite into the bent plastic fitting, but it is easy to break. If you have the chance I would make sure you have an eyelet attachment. It can be a little inconvenient to set them up on a ladder in a tight space. The mounting screws are on opposite sides, which can require awkward reach. I haven't had any major hits with the shielded lights, but they did the job and saved the bulb from light hits.
