My aquarium is actually much cleaner and requires less maintenance. Fish are healthier. Rocks are rough as hell for a rooster so his fins don't like it, but most of the time he doesn't mind rocks. I placed this rock right next to the bubbler to allow the good bacteria to move around. The water is clear since I put it in. Algae became even less. When algae cover the top of the rock we clean the tank, but basically I don't need to clean the tank more than once a month and that's just to get poop off the rocks and some algae out of the bubbler tube. 20 gallon tank with betta and 12 marimos, waterfall filter, 2 plants, 2 skins and a bubbler. The tap water in my town is DEFECTIVE and this rock and lots of water treatment saved my cockatiel from a very stubborn bacterial infection from tap water. I tried 3 treatments but none of them worked without the addition of a stone.
