Not quite sure what this thing actually does for you other than place a painting on a rough spot on the wall and make a hole for can punch a hole nail. If you're trying to center a painting on a wall or hang it at a specific height, it's best to just use a tape measure, as the tool itself will hide the markings on the wall. Also, the photo of the hanging painting is misleading as this thing doesn't expand to the picture dimensions. This tool would be better if the area where the instructions are written is open and you can see the center mark or height mark on the wall. I used it once to hang a small painting in that exact spot on the wall and gave up. If you create a collage of small pictures on the wall, this might work for you.
