The right tool to remove BB-7700

This tool was perfect for my needs as I was removing BB-7700 which was used on the dura for a short time in the late 90's/early 00's-X. The single and triple pin ends seat properly in the locking rings on either side of the bottom bracket. Although I have large channel locks and a vise, I think using them would damage my frame and potentially chew the ring to the point where I would have a serious problem. Worth $15 to get the job done right in minutes! I installed the BB-5500 which is a bit heavier but maintenance free. I was hoping to rebuild the BB-7700 but the right hand spindle showed signs of corrosion and wear on the needle bearings was uneven. There was free play in the crank and this is the likely source. Shimano was right to drop this design. Good parking tool for special requirements.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Price piggy bank
