Intel Dual Port Gigabit PCI-E Card

Works great on an OpenBSD gateway server. I have 3 internal wired networks + 3 internal wireless networks + internet uplink on this server - 7 ethernet ports in total - 1 onboard on motherboard + quad port Intel PCI-E x4 card + this 2 port Intel PCI-E x1 card. Currently with Dell Optiplex 3020 SFF. The card heats up like everyone else. It doesn't seem very hot. It survives in a Dell SFF case with no real ventilation, sandwiched between a power supply and a quad-port card. The card came with both low-profile and high-profile brackets. I haven't measured speeds, but PCI-E 1.0 delivers 250MB. /per bandwidth per lane. This is a x1 card (one track). Achieving gigabit speeds on both ports comes pretty close to the hardware's theoretical throughput. If you want a little breather, I'd suggest a x4 map rather than a x1 map like this. My case only had two PCI-E slots (x16 and x1) and x16 had a four port card so I had to get a x1 card.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Shorter cable than other options
