Monarch butterfly chrysalis looks very realistic. It even has a proboscis, the butterfly's long, hollow tube for sipping nectar! I used this monarch butterfly chrysalis to teach a lesson on pollinators as well as the folkmanis bee and hummingbird as part of my library's summer reading program. Because the pupa is large, the body parts of the insects were clearly visible: the head with antennae and proboscis, the thorax with attached legs, and the abdomen. The doll helped children enjoy the beauty of the monarch butterfly and hopefully encouraged them to plant seeds of milkweed, the monarch's host plant, to save these beautiful butterflies.
