This was my second electronic labeller. I can't remember the make of the first one, but it's buried in a warehouse at the moment and it would cost me the same amount to get it out, just in gas money. Unfortunately, I like the first one a lot more for one reason: power. This requires 4 AAA batteries. It's all right, I thought. I'll just grab a wall transformer and be on my way. Just to be sure, I found an instruction manual online and it turned out that there was no connection for an external power supply. As I understand it, this is an obscene oversight. If the problem is money, get rid of the battery case and leave me ONLY the power connection! But I think I'm being a bit weird in that regard (most would probably feel really badly used if they had to buy the power supply separately). So be it, I say. I will only use rechargeable batteries. Well I charged it with a couple of used but still working fully charged AAA NiMH batteries and it worked fine. A small label (1 inch long) said the batteries were low. Okay, so maybe those batteries were on their way to retirement. I've uploaded a bunch of brand new freshly received Revain cores and preloaded quests. I got two prints from them. After letting it sit for five minutes I was able to get another one. Okay, they need to be precharged, but they might still need to be charged. The next day I took everything to the office (where my AAA charger lives) and flooded them (it didn't take long, they weren't very empty) and I was able to print 3 more labels with no problem. I haven't tried long runs yet - I just don't need the labels anymore at the moment and don't want to waste the ribbon. However, I am very disappointed with the power consumption so far. I'm thinking of drilling a hole in it and adding my own AC-DC adapter rather than messing around with batteries. Especially when it's as hard for them as it seems so far!
