Review on Gigabit Wireless AP RB951G-2HND πŸ’» Mikrotik with 1000mW Power and 5 Ports by Amit Rajput ᠌

A really necessary purchase, glad I found this product.

I am very pleased with the device. For more than a year now, it has been working and pleases me with its stable work, the absence of glitches and freezes; I have never had to reboot it yet (except when I was directly involved in the configuration). This is despite the fact that it serves three computers and several smartphones via Wi-Fi. A stable and powerful Wi-Fi signal - I checked it with a smartphone on the street - I leave the house for 40 meters - the signal is "full" and this despite the fact that between us there are two metal doors and an apartment window on the back side! When I bought and connected it, I was faced with the fact that I could not set it up on the go; I had to google and read a little. Everything there looks completely different from, say, TP-Link, D-Link and similar inventions. If the latter have a Wizard for setting up, with the help of which even a β€œteapot” will somehow set up the device for work, then there is no such thing in Mikrotik. At least I didn't find it. There is a choice in terms of configuration - a web interface, a command line (to the delight of Linux users) and the Winbox program, but all this is not for dummies. However, if your provider provides DHCP settings (in most cases it happens), then most likely your Mikrotik will pick them up automatically and the Internet will go, but this is clearly not enough to create a secure network, additional configuration will be needed. This is a device for those who love the principle of "set it and forget it" - I have had the device for almost two years now and judging by its work, I believe that (with proper tuning) you can not touch it for years. As for the price, it is slightly higher than the average for home routers, but the quality justifies this price. Personally, I think it's worth taking - personally, I'm unlikely to exchange this device for something else. I have not yet seen the best device in its class.

Pros
  • works without glitches and freezes several control methods: web interface, Unix command line, Winbox utility very wide customization options very powerful hardware - pulls traffic for hundreds of megabits / s (most home routers can hardly pull 90 Mbps) Stable and strong Wi-Fi signal gigabit ports
Cons
  • the developers did not strive to create a "user friendly" interface and, as a result, setting up this device would be too tough for a beginner, experience in setting up this class of hardware is needed
