Review on πŸ”§ Lewmar 10-inch Sailboat Winch Handle One Touch Power Grip by Paul Dahl

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I wasn't impressed with towing and winching

I used the one touch version of the Harken on another boat in a 4 day regatta and loved it. Decided to save a few bucks and bought this version on the recommendation of a friend who suggested it worked in a similar way. Unfortunately, this version is inferior. The Harken version turns off smoothly and quickly, and that's important, every time. This is something you'll have to tinker with regardless of the type of winch (I've tested this on several boats with different brands of winches, including Lewmar). The narrower escapement on this Lewmar winch also doesn't seem to be as reliable as the Harken version. On older boats, measure the gear shaft on your current knobs and compare to that. It seems longer and clamps 2 of the 6 winches I have on my boat. To pull it out you have to pry it open with a large screwdriver. I consider this aspect my fault because I didn't check it so it did NOT affect the number of stars I gave the product. I only mention this as a warning to others.

Pros
  • Marine grade alloy
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
