Cannot Lock - External Accessories

Handle is a good weight and looks well made; However, the locking mechanism may not necessarily engage your winch, so that's a HUGE negative. I sent them back and will only buy thumb lever pens from now on.

Pros
  • Locking Winch Handle
Cons
  • Operating Speed

The only make and model I use

These are my favorite winch handles. Very easy to put on and take off. Good leverage. The handle design makes it easy to use in any position or with one or two hands. If my crew would stop throwing them overboard now, I wouldn't have to buy as many of them. :)

Pros
  • Corrosion resistant
Cons
  • Not for everyone

Have had one for 3 years - great handle

I bought this winch handle because I didn't want to be without it anymore. I've had this Lewmar for three years now and I realized that anyone can lose it overboard. Since we swim 6 months a year, selling it home without replacement was not a situation I wanted to face. Granted, the pen's profile is quite high, but this is my favorite pen.

Pros
  • One Touch Lock

Metal beats plastic!

Identical winch handle available but made out of composite which I think would be better (less chance of gelcoat chipping off if dropped). But after about five years in the Caribbean, things started to crack. Maybe they're just cosmetic, but I didn't want to roll the dice. It's the same metal alloy construction. They are heavier but I know they are UV resistant.

Pros
  • Single handle
Cons
  • No power

I wasn't impressed with towing and winching

I used the one touch version of the Harken on another boat in a 4 day regatta and loved it. Decided to save a few bucks and bought this version on the recommendation of a friend who suggested it worked in a similar way. Unfortunately, this version is inferior. The Harken version turns off smoothly and quickly, and that's important, every time. This is something you'll have to tinker with regardless of the type of winch (I've tested this on several boats with different brands of winches…

Pros
  • Marine grade alloy
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
