A must-have for wood cutting board users. There was so much sand on my walnut board that my knives actually got caught on the fibers. Obviously I was too excited to use my new cutting board, but I decided to take a step back and follow conventional wisdom by applying a coat of cutting board oil (cooking oil). After giving the board a good wash with warm water and light soap, I let it dry completely and started oiling it. There are many opinions on how to do this properly, but what worked for me was to coat every 10-12 hours and repeat this process until the slab stops picking up oil. This is for initial coverage only and usually only 2-3 coats are needed. The idea is to give your board enough lubrication to "repel" water and be more knife friendly. It has worked really well and I now apply a coat every 3-4 weeks depending on how often I use it. Blackboard. It has worked really well for me and is a must have for wood plank owners.
