They look and feel the same as the original ear pads on my MDR-7506. Like everyone else, mine started peeling after about 5 years of moderate use. The design of the replacement parts is such that the shell is thin and soft, just like the original. Headphone pads always wear out, some lose their softness, some crumble, these start to peel off. I think it's just an item that needs to be replaced from time to time, like shoes or tires on a car. In the photos I put the old worn pad next to the new one. They seem almost identical to me. The new one might look a bit smaller in the photo, but I think that's just because it stretches a bit after installing it on phones. Installation is definitely a hassle until you realize you have to pull and really stretch the pads to put them on. on the. The first cost me a good ten frustrating minutes, but once I figured it out, the second went easily.
