I wanted to write a very bad review about this device, but then I did some experiments. Make sure the sharp end is pointing inward. Then cut a small hole in the skin. Then start the tool-less tip with scissors or something similar. Then insert the part you have started between the blade and the plastic part. You may need to turn the piece of leather over depending on how you started cutting the tip. Then tug at the piece you started (you may need needle nose pliers to get a good grip) and yes, leather lacing. Once it's running, it's very nice. Like popping a giant pimple. The blades break easily and will take a little patience to get started but otherwise a great tool
