Review on πŸ–₯️ Acomdata Tango 2.5-Inch USB/eSATA Hard Drive Enclosure Kit in Obsidian Black (Model TNGXXXUSE-BLK) by Danierl Temple

More expensive, but worth it for many

I used to buy USB enclosures for 2.5 inch hard drives to recover data from a dead man's hard drive refurbish laptops. Since I didn't have any long-term plans for such cases, I always bought the cheapest thing I could find and chose something better the last time I applied. This suitcase meets all requirements perfectly. I upgraded a nearly full 120GB Toshiba drive in my Dell Inspiron laptop to a 500GB drive from Western Digital and needed a case that could recognize that much capacity. This box worked great. Based on previous reviews, the manufacturer has updated its installation guide, but anyone with computer experience and mechanical skills should be able to figure out how to install a SATA hard drive in an enclosure without reading the instructions. Removing two small screws at the end of the case reveals the innards, which slide like a drawer out of the sturdy extruded aluminum case. After that, the drive is simply plugged into the socket installed on the circuit board. The drive is then secured to the board with four small screws that are included. Inserting the circuit board into the aluminum case the way it came out and reinstalling the two tiny screws that hold the endplate in place is all it takes to complete the installation. My computer quickly recognized the full capacity of my new 500GB drive when I connected the case with the USB connection cable that came with it. I then used Acronis True Image Home to clone everything from my laptop's internal hard drive to the one inside the case. When the cloning process was complete, I removed the new 500GB drive from the case and installed it in my laptop. My computer booted fine from the cloned drive and confirmed that the enclosure was working properly. I then put the 120GB hard drive that was in my laptop in the case, formatted it and now I have an external drive to back up my files to. This case is clearly better made and slightly larger than other cases I've used. Most cheap cases I've used don't have hard drive mounting hardware, so they just rattle internally. This case is solidly built, well designed and offers extra protection for your internal hard drive. For applications that require extended use and the ability to see high-capacity 2.5-inch drives, I find this case to be a good value.

Pros
  • Model#TNGXXXUSE-BLK only includes 2.5 inch thick SATA 9.5 mm hard drives
Cons
  • Very expensive
