Review on πŸ”Œ SONOFF Smart Switch for Enhanced Control and Automation by Flex Graham

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Light doesn't always work with a switch ==> buy Shelly or something.

I am not changing my rating from 3 stars to 1 star. After updating my router 2 out of 4 Sonoffs are now unusable. I have to reset them to give them the router's new SSID, but they pair and update. They seem to go into pairing mode but can't find my phone (12 inches away). Mostly brick. The two that work are terribly hand-switched. You have to flip the light switch 5 to 10 times before it registers. As a side note, I also had to update Shelly to the new SSID. This caused me some trouble too (had to reset my Shelly account) but after a day of work everything worked fine. I used them to connect the lights in the barn and basement to WiFi. Once connected to the network, controlling the application becomes excellent. Very easy integration with Google Home. The problem is that the light switch input doesn't always work. I would say it works 80% of the time. My understanding is that this is a design flaw and I've seen recommendations to solder a capacitor to the switch. There were no problems with my Shelly, but it was 2 times more expensive.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Very expensive
