This mattress pad covers the entire mattress and has no elastic band around the bottom. The zipper has a protective cover and starts on one short side, covers the long side and ends about a third of the way down the other short side, allowing for easy on and off of the mattress. Because it covers the entire mattress, it protects better and requires a bit more work than those that only have elastic around the edges. The upper material is soft and the waterproof lining is several layers thick and absorbs moisture well. It washes well in the washing machine. The only downside is that I don't put it in the dryer as I don't even want to think about damaging or melting the waterproof lining. Instead I hang it in the wash and it dries the next day. For a waterproof mattress topper, this is a winner.
