Review on ๐Ÿ” USB Wired Handheld Laser Barcode Scanner - Efficient Black Bar Code Reader by Matthew Thorndike

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very accurate, even with tricky barcodes. Good price. Long battery life.

I have now used this to connect to the parts database in my workshop; Although I'm using Windows now, I'm hoping to use a Raspberry Pi in the future, so installing a driverless receiver is important. I tested it on both platforms and it worked the same on both when reading simple 1D barcodes into a text field. A possible database extension (displaying a barcode on the screen when cataloging items) has been canceled because this device cannot read barcodes. displayed on the computer screen. Probably something to do with signal timing. Too bad as this limits flexibility a bit as I now have to print out the barcodes I need to scan including "menu" items like "enter catalog number". However, I printed the barcodes on sticky labels and attached them to a few parts bins to complete the proof of concept and it works pretty well. I point the gun at the trash can and the system tells me what should be there (rather than languishing on the soldering station table) and how much etc. So the next step is to get it up and running with a handheld Raspberry Pi system bring. This allows me to "inventory" all parts with quantities by simply scanning and pressing a number on the touchscreen or keyboard connected to the Pi. I can then upload the data from the gun to the parts system and it will verify the information in seconds.

Pros
  • The barcode scanner is easy to install and ideal for use in a wide range of situations and workplaces. Its function is unmatched and easy to use, stylish design.
Cons
