Review on Zilla Snake Lizard Litter Aspen by Heather Schmidt

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I wish I had tried them 10 years ago!

I've only used aspen shavings for my 11-year-old sand boa since she was a child. He did a great job but just thought I'd try aspen chips to change things up a bit and try something new. This is the best litter and will be my new pick from now on. Aspen shavings are an excellent choice, no complaints. Low in dust, almost odorless, very clean, and especially for sand boas it is very important that they can occupy the litter, since they spend most of their lives underground in the wild. These aspen chips are just a step forward in my opinion. They have ZERO dust and no odor that I noticed. It's just as easy for him to burrow into and I've found these chips to trap the heat from the heat lamps I use to keep his cage warm. I don't like seeing big animals in small cages, so while his cage is only 18 inches long and can reach at most 2 feet, his cage takes up the entire wall of the room he's in (actually, I did the math (On a small scale (his house is bigger than mine lol) so it takes a lot of power to keep the cage at the perfect temperature. I noticed that since switching to these aspen shavings, it is naturally 4-5 degrees warmer in his cage than with shavings. In fact, I now use lower wattage heat lamps, which not only saves me money on the lamps themselves, but also on my electricity bills. I can tell he likes chips more too. They're more of a sand and pebble texture and I noticed he sits on them and absorbs more heat, which was rare if he'd ever seen him fully dug out of the shavings as they didn't retain the same surface heat.
