It looks best when I put it in a corner, otherwise it's too distracting in my open plan living room and kitchen. It's pretty stable, but it takes some patience to get it tight enough. When I put it in the corner, I rotated the shelves so they were pressed against the walls to add extra stability, which really helped. I placed small spacers between the steps and the walls to prevent the shelves from scratching the wall and it was quieter. when cats jump from shelf to shelf. Great in my small apartment. I have a big cat and a small cat and they both love this thing, lots of compliments from guests because it looks good. I don't like that the piece of wood on the ceiling is carved in the shape of a cat's head because it looks silly but you don't really notice. Wood and sisal go very well with the rest of the furniture. I am very happy.
