Review on πŸ’» Lenovo Thinkpad Workstation Dock 230W (40A50230US) for US Market by Jimmie Gebrehiwot

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent factory product, no connection problems, very convenient!

so far so good. Fits my P51 SE (the one with the keyboard). I'm a freelance engineer and I often have to take my computer to clients and now I really appreciate the docking station. The build quality is mediocre but is totally what I expect from a docking station, be it Dell, Lenovo or whatever, they all seem to be of the same quality (and probably made in the same factory). The price ranks 4 to 5 stars in my book. I almost want to buy another one just in case but my car is 2 years old so I'm just taking a chance. If there are any negative experiences with this dock I'll update this post, but if I haven't changed my review years later, let's assume the dock is alive and my trusty Lenovo is still healthy! Everything worked fine when I plugged everything in EXCEPT I had to update my graphics card driver (NVidia Quadro m1200) to get the correct colors on both monitors AND I had to force standard audio on the laptop's audio adapter. It's okay, and in any case I have to take responsibility myself. Everything else was flawless. I've undocked, shut down, restarted, hastily turned off the computer without undocking or fully shutting it down, turned it back on, plugged and unplugged external drives without ejecting them (and that was only day one!), all without problems. I don't have 4k monitors, but if I did I would be aware that some graphics cards don't support pass-through and would research this before buying a docking station. If you have a P51, you've probably thoroughly researched your options and have a good idea of how hardware works/doesn't work with each other and what limitations remain for high-performance processes, especially when scaled down to portable. Do your research before you buy. Personally, I haven't had any problems, but if you're having trouble getting your computer to see your dock, you probably need to add an exception to your firewall so your computer can 'call' the 'hear'. Google before giving negative feedback! That's a lot compared to what typically costs around $170 plus another $75 for the station and charger respectively. Enjoy!
