Bodum Chambord Three Cup French Press for One

I have a larger version of this French Press and have been using it for years with no problems. Using a French Press is one part science, one part cooking, and three parts magic/luck. Once you figure out your preferences, you'll be in the land of coffee nirvana. Since I rarely need 33 ounces of the Nectar of the Gods, I opted for the three-person version. Delivery was as promised and even when the delivery man left the box in the driveway the product was received intact. It was exactly as described. This is a small French press. The instructions say to fill no more than an inch from the top where the top of the top metal strip is, a good visual guide. I measured 12 ounces to see how much this version of the French press actually holds. Twelve ounces are located directly on the metal band, about an inch from the tip. Ah, but there's a catch here that Archimedes discovered while swimming. If you put 3 scoops of coffee in the device, you won't be able to hold 12 ounces of water because of this displacement. Three spoons were too much for me, so I took two. I boiled a pot of water in an Ovente kettle. After letting it sit until it boiled, I measured out 12 ounces and poured it into bodum. I gently stir the thickness with a plastic spoon, place on top and let stand for 4 minutes. Then I started the final step of the extraction process. Slowly and carefully, I pressed my hand into the hard curve of the butt. When I felt the slightest resistance, I gently squeezed. Eventually I reached the limit where I couldn't push anymore. I noticed a creamy liquid forming on the surface of the coffee. I twisted the lid and poured the hot, steaming drink into the measuring cup. Ten ounces. I do not mind. Bases and sediments were not noticed. I used Cape May Roasters Coarse Lighthouse Blend. Delicious. See photo. Regular coffee mug, Keurig and coffee bag in the picture for size reference. Note: I've found that if you let the coffee steep for too long, like after reheating it in a coffee maker for four hours, it tastes bitter. Be careful when brewing the earth. Cleaning was easy. I used a plastic spoon to scrape out the residue and what was left was washed down the drain. Cleaning the soil from the filter was easy. Definitely worth buying if you are looking for a single cup coffee maker.
