Consideration for Carpal

After seeing the recent Virginia winter highway full day interstate jam in freezing weather, I took serious stock of the state of my emergency car kit. I saw that Instill had no tire plug kit, air compressor, and needed to replace my existing jumper cables with heavier duty and longer ones (2 gauge, 25 ft). This seems like a comprehensive-enough kit even though it didn't come with any vulcanizing rubber cement. I bought the 67 piece hard case unit and mine did come with a paper slips of instructions. However, one thing I didn't account for was the lack of ergonomics and freezing cold retainment from the bare metal handles of the 2 primary plugging tools. I live in a cold weather state and have a moderate case of carpal tunnel to boot. While these are personal points of discomfort and I admittedly did not consider these factors ahead of my purchase, they are enough to not make me a big fan.So if you live in the Great North and want to get a tire plug kit like this think about having good grippy (warm) gloves and/or wrap the handles with grip/sport tape. You can also immerse the handle part in that plasti-dip stuff to add comfort and cold protection. The pliers were pretty small, thin, and uncomfortable to hold as well. They are smaller than the psi air stick thing. I am a smaller chick that doesn't have big hands, so if you are the opposite consider having a bigger, more comfy backup set of pliers on hand. Now that I have seen / felt up this kit IRL, I think I will opt for core tools in a (high denier bag?) kit with less overall pieces and customize certain add-ons that will fit. Like the pliers, quality rubber cement, an extra digital air gauge, appropriate gloves, etc.I do duplicate specific items because I don't want to search around for -X- in high stress situations. Better to have all the high relevant stuff in one place. One is none and 2 is one, after all. That prepping motto is also why my nice-sized midsize sedan trunk is 90% full right now. So the compactness of any final additions of tools and supplies is key. Especially when you consider all of the winter-related extras on top of the standard year-round emgx stuff. There are tons of videos and lists online to research and put together a car emergency kit that works for you and your family. Anything can happen when you least expect it, so better to default on the side of being prepared.I will be giving this kit to someone with kids to keep in their vehicle while I search / build a more fitting 2.0 kit for myself in the meantime.
